The Pint Lab
Best Protein Powder Brands
for the Ninja Creami
We rank brands by the average score of their tested powders. A brand must have at least 3 powders tested to qualify. Scores of 8.0+ are clear winners. Scores of 6.0–7.9 are worth exploring. Below 6.0, we don't recommend.
How We Rank Brands
We rank brands by the average score of their powders. A brand must have at least 3 powders tested to qualify.
Brands scoring 8.0 or higher are clear winners — buy these. Scores between 6.0 and 7.9 are worth exploring but not a slam dunk. Anything below 6.0 we don't recommend.
Our scoring criteria: flavor quality, smooth texture (no graininess), and would-buy-again factor. We test each powder the same way — in a Ninja Creami NC301 with our standard recipe.
Buy These — Winners
Brands scoring 8.0 or higher. These are the brands we actively recommend — consistent quality, great flavor, and reliable Creami performance.
Levels
Levels is our top-ranked brand for a reason — their powders consistently deliver clean, rich flavor with zero grittiness. The Vanilla Bean is the gold standard for a classic pint, and the Cappuccino is a must-try for coffee lovers. Every flavor we've tested has been a winner. If you're just starting out, grab a bag of Levels first.
FlavCity
FlavCity is the most exciting brand in our lineup. With 8 flavors tested and nearly all of them scoring 9+, the consistency is remarkable. What sets FlavCity apart is their smoothie-style formula — ingredients like banana powder and real fruit extracts that genuinely amp up the Creami game. The Butter Coffee and Mint Chocolate are two of the best pints we've ever made. A must-buy for anyone serious about protein ice cream.
Worth Exploring
Brands scoring 6.0–7.9. Some solid options here, but results are more mixed. Worth trying specific flavors rather than buying blind.
Not Recommended
Brands scoring below 6.0. Based on our testing, these brands consistently underperform in the Ninja Creami. Texture and flavor issues are common.
Prodough
Prodough has a massive flavor lineup — 17 tested and counting — but the results are inconsistent. A few standouts like Coconut Cream and Raspberry Cheesecake score in the 9s, but the majority land in the 5–6 range. Texture issues (graininess, iciness) are common across the line. If you want to try Prodough, stick to the top-rated flavors and skip the rest.

Optimum Nutrition
Optimum Nutrition is a household name in protein, but their powders don't translate well to the Ninja Creami. Across 5 flavors tested, the average score sits at 4.0 — the lowest of any brand we've reviewed. The texture tends to be icy and the flavor profile is flat compared to brands built with ice cream in mind. We'd recommend spending your money elsewhere for Creami-specific use.
