The Review

Achieving an authentic strawberry flavor in protein powder, especially one with a brand-name affiliation like this, is usually a considerable challenge - the artificial taste can be so hard to avoid. However, RYSE's Strawberry Shortcake Rolls flavor manages to surpass expectations, delivering a profile that genuinely captures the essence of fresh strawberries without the typical overly sweetened characteristics. The flavor is almost nostalgia, reminding me of strawberry Creme Savers from the 90s and early 2000s! This was a delightful surprise. The texture of this protein powder when prepared as ice cream is very good. It spins into a consistently smooth and creamy consistency, with no detectable ice shards or powdery grit. This is highly enjoyable, allowing the unique strawberry profile to shine without any textural distractions. This particular flavor offers a unique and satisfying alternative for those seeking a fruit-inspired protein pint. The only downside to this powder is the artificial sweetener. This is a personal preference, however, if Sucralose does not bother you, this is an incredible option! Pairs particularly well with Vanilla Oreo thins and fresh or frozen strawberries!

Worth Exploring

Ryse is a standout performer in the Ninja Creami largely due to its specific protein blend, which features Micellar Casein alongside Whey Isolate. While some whey powders results in an icy or flaky texture that requires multiple "re-spins," the slow-digesting casein in Ryse acts as a natural emulsifier, yielding a dense, gelato-like consistency right out of the gate. This structural advantage means you rarely need to add extra fat or pudding mixes to achieve a professional "scoopable" mouthfeel. However, because the freezing process tends to dull flavor perception, Ryse’s aggressive flavoring system works in its favor here; the bold, licensed profiles—like MoonPie or Skippy—remain vibrant and distinct even at sub-zero temperatures, whereas more subtle brands might end up tasting bland. This can backfire at times though - Cinnamon Toast is a good example. Overall, strong solid brand for those who do not mind artificial sweeteners.

Fantastic flavor, but limited use as it really only makes strawberry shortcake or other strawberry base recipes so lacks versatility.
