A decent option for Ninja Creami protein ice cream. Works well enough, but there are better choices in the rankings. Decent option if it's on sale.

The Review

The Sprout Living Epic Protein Complete Coffee powder distinguishes itself with an exceptionally smooth texture, a real win for plant-based options that often struggle with grittiness. The coffee flavor is authentically clean, resembling a mild, freshly brewed cup rather than artificial coffee candy, and comes through pleasantly despite a lingering subtle, earthy bean flavor. This bean note, familiar from previous Sprout Living powders, is significantly less pronounced compared to their Vanilla Lucuma variety, allowing the coffee character to dominate.

The primary downside remains that slight underlying bean aftertaste; while improved, it still subtly detracts from what could be an outstanding flavor profile. For those extremely sensitive to plant protein notes, this might be a minor deterrent. However, for plant-based enthusiasts seeking a genuinely smooth protein pint with a reliable coffee character, this powder is a solid choice. To enhance the experience and add another layer of flavor, consider blending in a tablespoon of high-quality dark cocoa powder, which complements the coffee beautifully and helps to further mask any lingering earthy notes.

While not a full-bag rebuy for my personal rotation, it certainly earns its place as a reliable, quality plant-based option when a straightforward coffee flavor and smooth texture are desired.

Pea ProteinPlant Protein: More Challenging to Spin

Plant proteins are generally harder to spin smooth in the Ninja Creami. Pea protein can produce a slightly grainy or earthy texture, rice protein tends to be drier, and blends vary widely. Getting a creamy plant-based pint usually requires more recipe tweaking — extra fat sources, gums, or a longer freeze time.
